New Office

Behold! My new office. Sure its no corner office like the last one, but its bigger and has a giant window with a view of downtown San Jose and the mountains (including the Lick Observatory). If you're wondering why I have a new office, its because I've moved from the Photoshop team to a research group. One of the downsides of working in a research group in industry is that you can't tell anyone about all the really cool stuff you're working on.

I thought this would be a good time try out some HDR, so this was 'Merged to HDR' from 5 different exposures spread over 5ev.

Technical Specs: Canon 5D, 15mm fisheye, f/13, ISO 100.

More Light Painting

Another experiment with light painting today. Its not exactly what I was envisioning but part of that is because of the light I was using. I think its time for a trip to Fry's. My intention was to experiment with shadows.

Technical Specs: Canon 5D, 70-200 f/4 IS @ 138mm, f/9, 15s, ISO 100.

Light Painting

This is my first shot at 'light painting'. The room was as dark as possible with all lights off. I set up an exposure time of 15 seconds and used a small flash light to 'paint' the light onto the subject. I actually liked two of the images I made so this is a composite of both of them. I'm going to play around with light painting more in the next few days, we'll see what pans out.

Technical Specs: Canon 5D, 70-200 f/4 IS @ 176mm, f/11, 15s, ISO 100.

Viva Las Vegas!

Phew, its been over two weeks since the last post. I have a good excuse:

1. For the first week I was busy every night digging up the stumps of the juniper bushes so that Kim could get her new plants and flowers in there.

2. For the second week, Kim's family came down and we drove to Las Vegas.

Now that we're back, its picture time again! Along with seeing Las Vegas, we also did a quick day trip to the Grand Canyon (a trip I won't try to do in a day again). Edward met us in Vegas and did an excellent job as a guide. Kim's parents and Amy left directly from Vegas back to Toronto. Kim, Sue, Edward and I then returned to San Jose via Death Valley and a quick stop in Santa Barbara.

Technical Specs: Canon Rebel XT IR, 17-40 @ 17mm, f/6.3, 1/50s, ISO 100.

Is that a helicopter down the street?

Why yes, yes it is, thanks for asking. Good Samaritan Hospital happens to be located across the freeway from our street. We usually don't see the helicopter that often (maybe once a month, if that), and yesterday was one of the days the helicopter was there. Actually yesterday the helicopter made two visits giving me plenty of opportunities to take its picture.

I have a small gallery of helicopter pictures on Picasa. Below is one more picture as it was taking off from the helipad.
