Anybody know what this bird is?

I saw this little guy chirping away yesterday morning so I quickly grabbed my camera and fired a couple of shots. Anyone know what bird it is or any online California bird identification guides?

Update: Thanks to Mike for suggesting the 'What Bird' feature on WildBird.com (http://wildbird.com). I believe this is a house sparrow, the beak size and colors are consistent with the sparrow.

Technical Specs: Canon 1Ds2, 300mm f/2.8 IS + 2x TC, f/6.3, 1/1000s, ISO 400.

I did a brief search using the "What Bird?" feature of www.wildbird.com.

It lets you enter in all sorts of criteria about the bird... it even has a separate category for "San Francisco Bay Area".

The closest I could find was the "Acorn Woodpecker"... but I'm not 100% convinced that it is the same bird.

Cool thanks for the link! I went through the selection process as well (based on the picture and memory) and best I can tell I think its a House Sparrow:

I don't think its an Acorn Woodpecker (the woodpecker has a longer beak than this one).

Ah, that makes sense... I actually did find the House Sparrow during my search, but I couldn't tell if that was it because I didn't know the coloration pattern of the wings and back.

Bird 27 is a good image of a typical house sparrow. I cannot recall ever seeing a house sparrow that is grey.
I am by no means an expert. I would recommend checking out the library. They always have a large selection of books on birds.
There are a ton of sites that have info too.

it is a common house sparrow. the gray comes from dust.
