Black-crowned Night Heron portrait

I went to the Palo Alto Baylands this morning to finally get a chance to use my newly acquired 7D in photographing birds. There wasn't a lot of activity there, but this BCNH swooped onto one of the palm fronds and posed for several minutes. I also saw a hawk (I think Cooper's Hawk) but it took off before I could get my tripod set up.

My initial impressions with the 7D are very positive, the detail resolved is fantastic and as I initially suspected, I think I will opt to use the 7D rather than put on a 1.4x tele-converter using the 1Ds3 when I need more reach.

Technical Specs: Canon 7D, 800 f/5.6 IS, f/5.6, 1/250s, ISO 800, flash fired.
