I am now all packed up and ready to go. After breakfast, we catch a bush plane back to Arusha, then spend the rest of the day doing some shopping and just hanging out. The 25 hour journey home begins tonight. I go from Kilimanjaro airport to Amsterdam with a quick stop in Dar es Salaam. Wait a couple of hours in Amsterdam and then its a direct flight to SFO (thank goodness).
The evening game drive was equally spectacular with a Leopard coming down from a tree and posing for us followed by several cubs playing in the most beautiful light I've seen on this trip thus far. What a great way to wind down this safari.

Today was a long day. After a delicious hot breakfast, we left camp at 6:30 and began our journey northward looking for the migrating herds. Along the way we had great sightings of Giraffe, Elephants, Cheetahs and a beautiful lioness draped on a tree. We found a large herd of Wildebeast in the afternoon before heading back to camp. Today gave me an idea of just how large the Serengeti is and how diverse the landscape can be. At the start of the day the ground was green with new grass with it getting drier the farther north we went.

Today we drove to the Serengeti National Park. Along the way we had several sightings of Giraffes, including a few that crossed the road in front of us. The Serengeti is just an incredible place and in the late afternoon we were hit by a rain storm unlike anything I've seen before. The next couple of days will be spent at Kusini Permanent Tented Camps.

Our first full day of shooting was in the Ngorongoro Crater. We headed out early since it takes nearly 90 minutes to get the bottom of the crater from where we were staying. As we were driving the rim of the crater, it was cloudy on and off giving the drive a sense of mystery. We got our first view of the crater as the sun was just coming up and the view was spectacular. We ended up a variety of light, first filtered through some clouds, overcast, and also direct sunlight. We also had fluffy clouds in the sky which I'm told isn't common, making for great photography. The Zebras were probably my favorite subject today. It was a long but productive and above all fun day.
