Hanging Around

Hanging Around - 645Z, 150mm, f/2.8, 1/320s, ISO 1000.
We started off for our Chimpanzee trek a little earlier today, being out there by 7 AM. It was a lighter day covering only about 7 miles over about 7 1/2 hours.  The Chimps weren’t as co-operative today, choosing to remain high in the trees for most of the day feeding.  As we were about to call it and head back, we spotted a couple on the ground and followed them for about 45 minutes and managed to make a few images.

I made this image earlier in the day and this fellow only stopped briefly to grab some fruit before continuing upwards on the tree.

Walking By

Walking By - 1DX, 70-200 @ 150mm, f/2.8, 1/320s, ISO 10000
I made this image within the first few minutes of us encountering this group of Chimpanzees.  This guy stopped, waiting for us to get off the path and once we did, then just walked by.  Amazing experience.

Pounding Waves

Pounding Waves - 645Z, 80-160 @ 80mm, f/14, 0.4s, ISO 100
I did manage to get out yesterday morning for some coastal photography at one of my favorite beaches in this area, Garrapata State Beach.  I was a little surprised at the height and power of the waves especially right at low tide but didn't think much of it at the time.  It wasn't until getting back with the rest of the team I learned about the tsunami warning (which was subsequently cancelled) from the earthquake in Chile.  I'm not sure if thats why the waves were strong, but it did make for some interesting photography.

Snow Blasted

Snow Blasted - Leica S, 30-90 @ 83mm, f/16, 1/12s, ISO 100
On the last day at Cairngorms we had snow come in short but severe bursts.  One moment it would be almost clear and then in a few minutes snow driven sideways.  We pulled into this grove during one of the bouts of snow and stayed there shooting on and off for an hour.  Good times.

Morning Reflections

Morning Reflections - 645Z, 28-45 @ 40mm, f/11, 20s, ISO 100
It was a cloudy, foggy morning with little at Bandon Beach, a perfect opportunity to capture a crisp reflection with a longer 20s exposure.

Hay - A7rII, 24-70 @ 34mm, f/7.1, 1/60s, ISO 2000
Took the family up to the Petaluma yesterday to visit some farms and in one I saw this stacked hay.  I found the combination of shapes, texture and tone to be fascinating.

Golden Grass and Rose Limbs

Golden Grass and Rose Limbs - Alpa STC, IQ 180, Alpa Schneider APO 120, ~f/13, 1/15s, ISO 100
I like both colorful and black & white images and at different times tend to be drawn to either.  In this case, the contrast of these color draws me in but the sense of depth keeps my interest.  I made this image on an afternoon shoot in Cairngorm National Park on a Scotland trip earlier this year.  The light was perfect for this kind of image, being flat and allowing the colors and subtler tones to come out.
