Crater Lake Blue

Crater Lake Blue - 5D3, 70-200 @ 70mm, f/8, 1/160s, ISO 100.

I’ve only been to Crater Lake once and didn’t get a chance to do any “proper” photography.  The deep blue of the water is etched in my memory though.

Rubber Rabbitbrush

Rubber Rabbitbrush - Leica M9, 35mm, f/16, 1/60s, ISO 160.

The Rubber Rabbitbrush along with Sagebrush are fairly abundant in the dry, arid parts of California.  Interesting tidbit I didn’t know about these plants is that Native Americans used the flowers as a yellow dye.

Pooling Waves

Pooling Waves - D810, Zeiss 15mm, f/14, 0.5s, ISO 64.

Of course I don’t need to go to Oregon to play with waves, got plenty of that in my own “backyard”.

Incoming Wave

Incoming Wave - 645Z, 28-45 @ 38mm, f/16, 1/8s, ISO 100.

Another one from the beaches by Bandon.  Playing with different shutter speeds both as the waves come in and go out is fun to experiment with and see what you get.

Bandon Beach Sun and Fog

Bandon Beach Sun and Fog - 645Z, 28-45 @ 34mm, f/20, 2s, ISO 100.

I’ve seen some images from friends who are in Bandon running a photography workshop and it reminded me of the many great shoots there last year including this one from a foggy morning.

Swirls

Swirls - A7r2, 70-200 @ 70mm, f/6.3, 4s, ISO 100.

When you go out photographing at noon, your subject choices are very limited with the light.  I saw these rocks and the swirls in the water forming a pattern and did what I could with it.

Emerald Falls

Emerald Falls - A7r2, 24-70 GM @ 54mm, f/10, 3.2s, ISO 100.

An image from my weekend trip to Portland a couple of weeks ago.  This is not the best angle to photograph Emerald Falls, but another photographer was there before me standing downstream so I opted to photograph it from a different vantage.

Daisies and Confederation Bridge - iPhone 6s+,    ISO 25.
Taken from Cape Jourimain National Wildlife Refuge, the other end of the bridge is 8 miles away (connecting New Brunswick to Prince Edward Island), making this one of Canada's top engineering achievements and the longest bridge in the world over ice-covered water.

The Ocean's Perspective

The Ocean's Perspective - iPhone 6s+, Zeiss Exolens 0.6x, f/2.2, ISO 25.

Boulder on the Ocean Floor

Boulder on the Ocean Floor - iPhone 6s+, Zeiss Exolens 0.6x, f/2.2, ISO 25.
The Bay of Fundy is an amazing place and yesterday evening was the first time on this trip I wished I had brought more than just my phone.  I decided for this trip to leave all the fancy cameras at home, bringing only the phone which had been fantastic.  However with the beautiful light, fluffy clouds and exposed ocean floor, I could spend hours shooting here.

Floating Wildebeest

Floating Wildebeest - 1Ds3, 500mm, f/14, 1/30, ISO 100.
Lastly, one in black & white and because of the rapid motion of the front legs, they seem to almost disappear, making the Wildebeest appear like its floating.

Wildebeest Jump

Wildebeest Jump - 1D4, 70-200 @ 115mm, f/29, 1/20s, ISO 100.

Another long shutter semi-abstract blur, but this time one can clearly see that its a Wildebeest jumping in the Serengeti.

Orange Abstract

Orange Abstract - 1Ds3, 70-200 @ 135mm, f/32, 1/4s, ISO 100.

I made this image by finding some dry grasses and open sky and took many dozens of images at various slow shutter speeds to get the right mix of color combinations and level of abstractness.
